The Camino de Invierno

Day 7 Monforte de Lemos to O Camino Grande

Thursday 2nd May 2019

The next section on the walk is a difficult stage, Monforte de Lemos to Chantda, being 31.5 km in length but with a big descent between Diomondi and Belesar and a big ascent from Belasar to Chantada. The ascent for the day would be 927 m and the descent 727m. I decided that this was too much to be pleasurable, so I split the stage at O Camino Grande. I went to the taxi rank, armed with another note to ask a taxi driver to pick me up at O Camino Grande at 2p.m. Here I met José, who, as it turned out has a daughter Aroa studying English Translation at Vigo University. When José came to pick me up Aroa came with him; she was able to practice her English and I was able to communicate with them.

I left Monforte de Lemos along Calle de Chantada .... yes, I think this is it!

The church at O Outeiro

The terrain here is rather featureless, so it became a day of photographing road signs to
indicate where I was. This is kilometer 3 on the LU-P-3204

Route Change since 2014

Last time I walked this section the path went off to the left shortly after the end of the wall of Pazo de Reguengo. In this way, it by-passed the village of San Lourenzo and went past the fountain at Pineiro.

In fact, in 2014 Igot the impression from a sign on the wll that the local inhabitants of
San Lourenzo did not want hikers passing through their hamlet. Now, as you will see below, this sign has gone.

.

Now this left turn has been allowed to get overgrown, and arrows have been painted on the lamp post
to direct you up the road and through San Lourenzo hamlet.

There seems little to be gained by following this route, and you might just
as easily walk along the very quiet road before continuing after Piñeiro

Following the road after Pazo de Reguengo, the route is
now sign posted through the hamlet of San Lourenzo.
This is opposite Kilometer 1 on LU-P-4112

A short distance from the fountain to the road

The path leaves the road in a westward direction towards O Camino Grande

The path emerges onto the road shortly before O Camino Grande, where I was
picked up by taxi for the return trip to Monforte.
